Slow-Motion Miracle Accelerates for Christmas!

Today I saw my oncologist at KU Cancer and received the best news imaginable!

My blood tests indicate that my numbers are improving in every category due to the experimental treatment of this clinical trial!

For example, during the 2 months that I have been the drug, my white blood cell count has dropped from 33,600 to 18,800; my platelets, lymphocytes and neutrophils have all migrated toward the normal range. And it's not just me.

Three of us are now in the the study, and they are seeing sigificant improvements for all of us.

This may be the dawn of an incredible breakthrough in the treatment of Leukemia. They will soon begin testing this drug on a broad range of blood cancers and lymphomas.

What an amazing Christmas present!

Making Christmas truly Merry!

As part of their ongoing partnership with Lee’s Summit Elementary, your church has adopted over 60 families in order to provide a joyous Christmas! 

The program, in its fourth year, was so well received that there was a waiting list of members wanting to adopt families.  Program Chair Jan Higdon was overwhelmed by the response.  “Even during this time of economic challenge, our church members opened their hearts and wallets to help those in need", said Higdon.  The church also sponsored a personal hygiene supplies drive for the school and collected over 240 toys and items as well as making a significant gift in support of the Lee’s Summit Social Services Christmas Store. 

None of this surprises me. Time and again we see our congregation rise to the challenge of helping those in the community who find themselves in need.  This is a congregation with real heart; the God's heart of compassion for others.

Stop for a moment and add up the things that God has done through this great church over the past year:

Souper Bowl Sunday, providing over 36,000 cans of soup to Lee’s Summit Social Services; the Summit Lunch Program (lunches during school breaks and summer vacation for students); the Run for the Summit (the 5K race that has raised over $100,000 for the Lee’s Summit Elementary Family Fund); as well as the ongoing support for the Westport Soup Kitchen through volunteers and food donations. 

Your Impact also provides regional support to locations like Joplin and inner-city St. Louis as well as an annual trip to Nicaragua to build homes.  To see more of what you do the ministry of this great church, check out the Impact blog, www.impactbeyondwalls.com.  

Because of ALL you do, this will be a very Merry Christmas for those in the greatest need!

Home for Christmas

I know that some of you are grieving this Christmas. You have entrusted to God people who were so dear to your heart that their absence has left a terrible ache.

 

Be clear – it is not unchristian to grieve those you love. God created us to love and love dearly, and when that love is absent in death, we grieve deeply.

 

But we do not grieve as those who have no hope, according to the Apostle Paul. We grieve the loss, yes; but we hold fast to the promise of life, and the assurance that by the grace of God we will be reunited one day with those whom we have entrusted to His loving care.

 

Ah, and the separation will be but a moment – for them. For us, it may feel like a lifetime, but when eternal life dawns for those we love, time is so transformed that years feel as if they were mere moments.

 

Perhaps that is the comfort that Christ promised those who mourn – the assurance that in heaven there is no pain of separation, for in what seems an instant, we are reunited with those we love.

 

This year, your loved ones are celebrating Christmas in heaven! For them, it will be but moments before we join them in the rejoicing!
